The Catholic Parish of Ramsgate and Minster is part of the Archdiocese of Southwark and the Universal Church under the headship of Pope Benedict XVI in Rome. We cover the southern part of the Isle of Thanet in east Kent, the towns of Ramsgate and Minster and the surrounding villages. We have two churches, Sts Ethelbert and Gertrude and St Augustine, in Ramsgate, and we have parish Masses in Minster too (where we have St Mildred’s Abbey and our Benedictine nuns).
On a regular Sunday we have 500 hundred worshippers at our combined services, which includes a Mass for our Polish community. We are blessed to be the parish in which Christianity first came to the English, in the landing of St Augustine in 597AD, and the place where the first missionaries met the first Christian King Ethelbert. Minster is also the place of one of the first Anglo-Saxon female monasteries (680AD) under Sts Domneva, Mildred and Eadburga. We offer a wide range of religious services and opportunities to encounter and deepen faith. We have a primary school in Ramsgate called St Ethelbert’s and our parish has much on offer for families and children and as well as for the elderly. Enjoy your virtual visit to our parish through this web-site and we look forward to welcoming you in person before long.
